How do I walk in heels comfortably and confidently around the office?

I got my first office assistant job at a prestigious law firm. I am excited about the new experience except that I have never had to really wear heels outside of an occasional wedding or holiday party and I ended up taking them off by the end of the night. My question is How do I walk in heels comfortably and confidently around the office?  Jessie D.  Is Head Over Heels In Los Angeles

1. Practice makes perfect! The more you wear them, the more your feet will adjust. When I first started wearing heels, I’d wear them around my house to get my feet used to them and to practice the walk. (No horse clopping.) Remember to think tall, like someone is pulling a string from the top of your head. Shoulders back. As odd as it may sound and quite a multitask, I’ve found engaging your core while walking works.

2. Extra padding! Use reinforcements to make walking in heels comfortable for the 8 hours, you will be running around the office.  There are gel pads and cushions for both the heels and the balls of feet or inserts. You can even get padding for to avoid blisters. At runway shows, models use sneaker inserts to make even the highest stiletto a little bit easier to walk in. Stylists also add shoe grips to the bottom of models heels to keep them from slipping on the runway. I highly recommend grips if your office floor is concrete or tile. 3. Higher quality! There are heels out there that are actually comfortable to walk in. Sometimes it requires paying a bit more than you originally wanted, but it will be worth it. Go to a department store to try on different brands and types to figure out what ones work best for your feet.

4. Height matters! Don’t be afraid to wear a kitten heel over a 4” heel. Sometimes the outfit or look may call for a lower heel. It’s really your preference and what works for your feet/ body. We like an all black pair of sling black kitten heels as they match any work look perfectly.

5. Soak those puppies! When you feel your feet swell and pulsate, soak them in a hot Epsom salt bath.
