Q. What is the current style on ladies slacks—tight, skinny leg or full leg? Ann D. is getting dressed one leg at a time in Phenix City, AL

A.  Yes, all of those styles are in season. Pants have always been considered the most comfortable and practical clothing, especially for everyday wear. The spring/summer 2018 runway shows was a kaleidoscope of colors, prints, and shapes. Dependent on your body type certain styles of slacks and trousers will be more flattering. So, dissect your closet and note what cut or fit of pants is perfect for your shape and continue reading what 2018 trends are best for creating the chicest day or night pant looks.

DAYTIME/CASUAL LOOK

The capri pant is becoming a basic staple since it is always on trend season after season. A capri or cropped length is versatile enough for an afternoon lunch or business-casual office. The fitted or wide leg cut looks fashion forward in a warm hue or print, and the length is perfect for any shoe style. Follow this general rule for choosing the right length for your height and body type, choose a hem that will hit the slimmest part of your leg. For example, a woman with muscular calves will want to extend her capri-pant length past her calf muscles as opposed to ending at or right above this spot. Also, avoid big cuffs as these generally make your legs look shorter.

 PROFESSIONAL/EVENING LOOK

For a professional office setting or a formal evening, pair your print blouse or matching blazer with a straight, flared or wide leg pant. Choose a style that has sharp tailoring, they flatter all silhouettes and can be easily associated both with flats and high-heel shoes. Looking to make a fashion statement at work, go with a wool-blend high waist trouser that has a crease down the front. For a lively evening out, my choice would be a bold color pant in silk or nylon for a look of luxury and sophistication.

Stylist Tip: Belt your pants for a defined waist! Wear a wide colorful belt to add a fresh look to your daytime look. Use a patent skinny belt with capris, and pair neutral trousers with a matching fabric or leather color belt.
