What kind of clothing styles should I be wearing that are made for bigger busts and what silhouettes should I wear to look more proportioned?
I am heavier on top than I am in my waist and hips. I sometimes have to buy tops in larger sizes to compensate but then drown in them, and other times my tops look too tight. What kind of clothing styles should I be wearing that are made for bigger busts and what silhouettes should I wear to look more proportioned? Rayen K. Busting out in Iowa
It sounds like you have a Top Hourglass body type and there is so many easy to follow styling tricks that can support you in looking more proportioned while still accentuating your small waist and showing off your great legs. Read below for a few styling tips and clothing cuts that I have used over the years with my clients.
- It's worth the few extra dollars to have blouses tailored to fit you perfectly. A good tailor will alter blouses to skim your bustline, adjust the side seams and arms. This $20 investment will give you peace of mind that you are not accidentally flashing co-workers or friends.
- Stay away from tight tops with high or wide necklines. In satin or cheaper woven fabrics, this can look restricting and it gives more unwanted attention to the bust line.
- Look for narrow V-neck tops and simple sleeves create a bust minimizing effect while showing off your hourglass shape.
- If gaping happens between buttonholes you can ask the tailor to adjust the placement of buttons. You can also use my favorite double-sided tape to inconspicuously tape down the gaps, in a pinch without ruining garment and lasts through multiple wears. This is the best brand and this is what all the best stylists have been using for over 40 years. Vapon Mens Grooming Tape https://goo.gl/23FHo8
- Buy jackets with deep v-necklines, a nipped-in waist, and slightly flared bottom help balance your upper and lower body. Jackets that hit at the hip bone are most flattering.
- When shopping for jeans or pants boot cut, slightly flared or trouser cut jeans are the most flattering on your figure.
- A-line or full skirts help to balance your bust creating the look of a true hourglass figure.
